So, Marlee is slowly getting better. I think?
She still freaks out when you attempt to remove her from her cage, but she is better when she is out. If she is out of sight of her cage, she will stand on my hand. Otherwise she prefers to hide in my hair. Lately I've been taking her into the shower with me and while doing chores around the house. She is very flighty still and I think I am going to start pushing the harness training. I'd like to have her wear a harness around the house
This weekend Marlee let me know she really does enjoying being around people- she started to contact call when we were not in the room with her. I was able to take her out somewhat successfully and she hung out on my shoulder as well as my roomates shoulder. She is still skittish and scares into flight easily but is more calm with sitting and hanging out with you, as well as getting out of the cage to explore. YAY! Small steps!
We may have made some progress. I'm not sure.
Today the BF came over to help me haul the caique condo outside, as well as the parrotlet cage, to completely dismantle, scrub down, clean, and re-arrange. He tried to take Marlee out- it ended up him chasing her all around the house because she freaked and was always 2 steps ahead of him. We managed to get her back in her cage safely.
Later I took her out after chasing her around the cage a bit, and she sat on my shoulder
So Marlee has been with me for 4 days now. Yesterday I had to clip her wings slightly, due to the fact that she could gain altitude. Last thing I needed was her getting scared, flying towards the bird room, and getting bit by one of the other birds.
She seems to be a little more used to people now- I am keeping her in my office so she can get used to be being around consistently. I've been taking her out of the cage once a day and petting her, getting her used to being petted and
So today is day one of owning my first ever baby bird - a 12 week old absolutely darling baby conure. A pineapple greencheek conure to be exact.
Since this is my first ever baby I am determined to raise it in the way I wish I could have with my other birds. That is, introducing her/him to lots of people, get used to lots of different environments and stimulation. I want it to be the kind of bird that can be comfortable and ok with lots of different people and can be an integral part
