how long does it usually take a baby to wean?

My WBC was hatched in August but is still on one feeding a day. I am happy the breeder does not force wean, but when does the baby usually wean?

They are NO different than human babies in that it is not the same for all. Some are faster than others. This baby is 4 months old, and it should be close, but Peanut wasn't weaned till he was almost 5 months, and Popcorn it was closer to 6 months.

I haven't hand fed my caiques, but I have lots of other species. There is a ball park range to expect them to wean but it's so individual and so many things can impact the timeline that you can't give a usual very well. I have heard that caiques are slow to wean and easy to regress after weaning so the breeder is good to not push the issue. If he is on one feeding a day now, he is basically feeding himself and that last feeding is his confidence booster/comfort food moment. As soon as he is self assured enough to do without it, he will be ready to go. It's best that it's his decision though. It can make a difference in their personalities forever. It's like the difference in the kid that is totally ready for kindergarten, walks right in, makes friends and tells great stories when he comes home compared to the kid that clings to the momma's leg, cries all morning, hides in the corner and has a fit when you tell him he has to go back tomorrow. It can be worked through, but it's much easier to prevent than to fix. But waiting blows doesn't it?!?

I know Caiques are slow at weaning . Some take longer than others , and usually anywhere from 4 - 7 months is what most breeders say . My boys weaned at 4 and 5 months .

Wow, that's bizarre; Joule was born February 1 and home by May 1 and ate everything and anything you gave her.

5minters gave an excellent reply. It all depends on the individual bird.

Hi:) Ducky was born August 7th and is on security weaning for one more week. She is eating fine but is having formula for comfort per breeder. So probably next week she should arrive from Utah.
