What do you all use to clean your cage with? Do you buy that expensive cage cleaning stuff in the pet stores?

Nope I sure don't. I use one of 2 things. I either use water and vinegar or I use GSE9grapefruit seed extract) and water. I have a whole flock and don't have time for that petstore stuff it seems with my birds I have to let it sit way longer than the ones that i use.

I used to use Poop Off and loved it.
Now I use Pink Solution. There is a Pink Solution thread on this forum.
Bleach, Windex, or other spray cleaners from the general store are not safe to use.

Never heard of pink solution. I don't use chemicals around the house. Everything gets GSE or vinegar and it works great on anything.

What kind of vinegar do you use Alan?

Just plain ole white vinegar in the gallon jugs. The smell does go away quickly.

I use Pink Solution as well. Actually, I use it for everything from laundry, to dishes, to bird cages and the bathroom. It is chemical free, all natural. If you want to disinfect something, you just add some vinegar to the mix.

Yes it is great stuff. I am once again thinking about becoming a distributor. I have had some local interest in it. Just go to www.pinksolution.ca to learn all about it! It actually does what they say it does!

Alan, I am planning to clean the caiques' cage using vinegar. What how much vinegar do you put in your solution and how long do you leave your little guy out for while it dries?

Occasionally for a really deep cleaning I will use Pet Focus Avian formula, but most of the time it is regular old hot water and elbow grease. For the cage pans, when they get all weird looking from the newspaper ink I will use barkeepers to get the newspaper ink up but thats about it.

Just good old fashion hot water, vingear and elbow grease. We take everything apart and hose everything down in the back yard then let it air dry in the sun. We also use mess catchers which are large rigid plastic bases with turned up edges which sit under the cages. They catch about 80% of the seed, etc that gets thrown outside the cage, makes clean up a bit easier and the floor doesn't get so much abuse.

FYI, here's the link for mess catchers, they last for years and I love them!
