Now, that I have Ky home what are some things I need to watch for until I take him to the vet on Monday. He has no trouble going to the bathroom. He got me two times on my hand and about 5 or 6 times in his cage. :giggle He did eat a few pellets when he got into the cage.
I was wondering what are some of things I have to look out for.
Thanks
Anthony
Any discharge from eyes, ears, nares can be a sign of a health problem. Inactivity or staying "puffed up" can mean they don't feel well. Also look at the droppings and get to know what is "normal." This goes over what to look for. http://www.parrotchronicles.com/septoct2002/droppings.htm

I would look extensively at this website (my BHC, Kiwi's breeder)
http://www.parrotscanada.com/
They have a spot for info for the new bird owner. There is a section on signs of a sick bird. When Kiwi got sick and died she began with only a couple of symptoms and ended up getting almost every one on this list (sadly treatment did not work as it was cancer).
Good luck with Ky.
Oh and one thing to remember is that Ky might be different after the vet visit. Mango refused dry pellets for a couple of weeks. I had to wet them down a bit. They will also probably be lethargic.

Thanks for the information. So sorry about Kiwi. My wife and I had a dog that got cancer and it wasn't easy. He was a great dog and I still miss him. He was my best boy.
Right now Ky is just talking (not words) up a storm. I gave him some food. I had to cook it up and he ate what he wanted and the had some pellets. I don't know how much he needs to eat but he is eating.

It's really useful to have a gram scale at home so you can weigh your baby every day to make sure that he maintains a healthy weight. They usually lose a little weight when they wean and fledge but then it should become stable. A sick bird often won't show obvious symptoms so keeping a track of what your bird weighs is a good way of know that they are eating enough.

You know Ky seems a bit picky. He still seems to want me to feed him. I was told that it isn't anything bad because I did feed him when he was only 4 weeks old. He knows I am gong to feed him and so it is a reaction. But, he eats his pellets and will eat some of his cooked beans loves apples. I just don't want to give him too many apples and other things because I want him to eat his other food. I am not going to hold back anything he eats. If he wants it he is going to get it. (to a point)
I don't want him to be starving.
