A friend of mine that has an Electus told me about a Bird-elicious and that is where she orders her birds food from. I placed an order, it is a little pricey but Sunshine really likes the food. It is suppose to be all organic and they even have a Caique bird diet. They also have flowers, seeds, treats, birdie breakfast, and etc... Sunshine would only eat seeds when I got her and every week she is eating more veggies and fruits and I will give a little seed every other day. I showed my vet her food and he said that it looks good. I just wonder if anyone else has ordered from them and is it really worth the money. This is the website if interested. www.bird-elicious.com

Someone posted about them not long ago. There was some controversy I beleive. Something about a disclaimer that made it look as though they have a lot of complaints. Maybe they can fill you in.

I have ordered from them, but haven't received my order yet. It's okay because Ky will not be home until Sept 2.
Some people did express some concerns about the company but you can't please everybody. I will know more when my order comes and then I will let you know.
You may be able to find just as good quality food as theirs if you look around.

Thanks for the information. I have a lot more ideas about what to feed Sunshine. I try to keep introducing new fruits and veggies. She is tough to get to eat veggies but likes corn on the cob which is the least best for her. Bird elicious is convenient though and I feel good about the quality.

The people in this forum can give you alot of advice and opinion. You take that information and do with it what you want.
But what is important is that your bird and you like the food or product.

Agreed. You need to find something that works for you and sunshine. If Bird-elicious is it then great...I hope for a sale for you since you said they were a bit pricey!

What I mean by pricey is a bag of food that should last a month is 15 bucks and seed is the same. They say to throw out food after a month of being open. My toal order with delivery was 44bucks but I also got fruit medley that he does not seem crazy about. I am pleased with it so far.

I make up the food I feed my birds. They get fresh all day and I keep a staple diet of seeds, nuts, dried veggies, dried fruits, bee pollen, etc., that is in the cage. I also feed sprouts. I think Bird-elicious is over priced for what they offer. I like Dr. Harvey's mixture if you want a pre-made mixture. He has no additives or preservatives. I feed my tiels and the parrotlet his Collassal Cockatiel Mixture. He has a line of food for all sizes of birds.

I do like the bird elicious concept and have gotten it a couple times for myself, but would never ever be able to afford it. Well crap now they've taken their site down for the holiday, but I remember doing the math and for a pound of food to feed my birds, it would cost like 20 dollars. I've gotten the single bags before but its never ever lasted a month.

I take out the crumbled BirdEelicious and throw it in my birdie bread mix.

Where do you get Dr. Harvey's mixture? Thanks Jen
Chelle

Jen, I sometimes use Dr. Harvey's WFS Plus on rice macaroni and coconut oil.
Their Veg to Bowl mix is good. And their What's Cookin. Ok, Dr. Harvey's is great!
Anyone ever use their cat products?

I received this email from Bird-Elicious. I am sad to hear this. I haven't told Perry yet, she will be pissed!! I wish I had a nest egg to spend on getting some from stores before it's gone.
PRESS RELEASE
September 2, 2008
Bird-Elicious!
Business Placed On Hold
Passion Tree House LLC. Has decided to suspend production of Bird-elicious! foods and our toy line for six-months to a year. As we have grown, our production has not been able to keep up with our customers demand, for which we deeply apologize.
We plan to re-open our new facility in Arizona , this will accomplish a number of things. One being the dryer climate will decrease the drying time of the diets we produce. Two, there will be more abundant resources and facilities that can be utilized for increased production and quality. This will allow our foods to be produced in a matter of hours instead of days or weeks. With this new plan we will be able to streamline the production and ship your orders out quicker all while maintaining the quality you have come to know, and trust.
Our Founder, Machelle, has revolutionized avian nutrition with her
research and diets. Her name belongs in the Who's Who of the avian
community. She has done all the research, testing, observation, and
correspondence with customers and vendors. She has created and "produced" the finest species specific avian food in the world, bar none. Her hand has been in every aspect of building Passion Tree House and as a result, she has become over-worked and
over-whelmed providing all these services by herself. She is truly an
amazing person and we are sure that nobody wants to see her health suffer, or the quality of our products suffer.
In order to preserve both very important aspects of Passion Tree House, (the key elements that make up Passion Tree
House) we made the decision to suspend production for the time being.
We are truly sorry that this news might cause any problems for our
customers.
We are shipping items that have been ordered, if there are items we cannot ship we will cheerfully refund payment on those items. Our website will be suspended so that no new orders will be accepted. No new orders will be processed.
Because Bird-elicious! is unlike any other diet available, we have
no recommendation for another commercially made diet.
Bird-elicious! is based off of human grade organic fruits, vegetables and nuts. We stand behind our statement that adding fresh organic items to a pelleted diet only has minimal nutritional gain.
Please except our deepest apology for the inconvenience this causes you, our loyal family of customers.
Sincerely,
The Bird-Elicious! Family and the family of Machelle,
George Pacion,
Chris Opperman,
Abigail Robleske,

That is crazy. What are you supposed to do if that is your bird's main diet?? I just don't get how they can do that.
Sillypup5
09-02-2008, 09:15 PM
WOW!! That is just wrong. We all know how hard it can be to convert a bird to a new diet. Especially all of a sudden like that?!?! That make me lose any last bit of respect I may have had for that company and confirmed the fact that I will NEVER buy any of their products. that is rediculous.
Sillypup5
09-02-2008, 09:15 PM
AND, they won't reccomend another diet?? So are all their customers just supposed to starve their birds for a year?

Yep. All good points.
It's like watching the proverbial train wreck.

I am soooo glad that I don't buy from them. I like that I can get my food in the store (along with fresh foods of course), plus, Zupreeme has AMAZING customer service. When the store did not have my size of pellets (they still had pellets available) they send me out a free bag of food plus a free $30 bag of thier nectar.

What a problem that will cause for people that have used the product for some time. If you have a supply of the food for a few months you may be able to get them off of that diet but I guess it isn't easy.

I don't use the product (as I have said) but I wonder if there was a way for a bunch of us to contact them to tell them how terrible this is. At least give some notice for people to stock up.

I looked all over for Lory Nectar when I was in the city and could not find it anywhere. Maybe I will contact Zupreem and see if they can send me some!
Like I said before, Ive been suspicious of the company since the beginning. If they really cared about their customers AT ALL they would have given people some warning rather than just shutting down. If they are doing so well why not hire more people to help, its called expanding your business. If you have a product that takes time to produce you need to plan ahead rather than just making food to order, even upscale restaurants do this. While it seems as though they started out with a good idea for a quality avian food they got so full of themselves (that press release is almost sickeningly arrogant) that they got in over their heads. Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the business never reopens. If it does they will almost certainly have lost just about every customer and likely will not survive very long.

They probably will. I could not get it because the stock was expired. They had no problem sending it to me here in Canada. Let me know what they say.

I am P-OFF and hope that I get my order I placed on the 12th of August. Thank god I placed an order with Harrison food as well. Sunshine seems to like the other better though. What is nectar and benefit for bird. Where do you get. what does it look like?
Jaclyn
09-04-2008, 11:37 AM
Nectar is something that Lory's eat, and most caiques love it. It is just a powder that you mix with water. Mango gets it at night out of a small espresso cup. She loves that. You get it from a pet food store. Zupreem sells the one that I have. The bag is almost $30 but it will has a long time.

I emailed Zupreem last night to ask them where around here I can get the nectar, and asked if I can get it from them. I'm really hoping they'll atleast send me a sample so I can try it.

Wow I just heard that Bird E Licious is closing down, too. Thats insane. You know my friend just went through a long process to get that stuff in her store, and they never once told her they were shutting down. What the?!
Can we still get in the site and look at ingredients and such, I wonder.
The entire site looks like it was taken down. If you go through the ultimate feed thread you probably could create something better than what they were selling. Especially since you know what goes in and you aren't relying on someone else.

Right. I was planning on going through the list of ingredients for Bird E Licous and comparing/contrasting ingredients between the different 'species specific' diets and seeing if there really was any difference at all.
I think I remember noticing some minor changes from the base diet but not really enough to make a difference. Like the African Grey version had more of that special calcium in it and I think caique version had more fruit. If someone could post the ingredients off a bag they have then you could figure out how to modify it to what you want pretty easily.

Zupreem absolutely refuses to send me a sample. They said they don't send samples because ALL their products are like samples as they have a money back guarentee. I tried telling her I can't find it anywhere.. That ALL my birds already eat their pellets, and I just want some of the nectar to suppliment my caique's diet. She emailed me back 3 times saying no. O-well...

You at least tried your best. I have not found any nectar around here. KY after almost a week doesn't seem to like his veges. Fruit seems to be the hit item.
Now, the pellets are his #1 choice. He eats them up. I just wish he would eat something else. I know they are good for him but he needs different food. I guess he is a normal child. lmao

have you tried a pellet/fruit mix like tropimix? My birds really like that. They get a handfull each of that, hagen gourmet and zupreem pellets in their dishes inside their cages. that is their staple diet that is available to them at all times.

I got notice that my order has been mailed out. I will mix it with other things I have found that Ky likes.
I don't want to get him hooked on something I can't get. I am going to give him his bed time snack in a few moments. It is about an hour till his bed time. He may be in bed now.

I did get my order yesterday but they did not ship any food. They are going to refund my money. They did ship the toys. It is fine that they did not ship the food. Now, I don't have to wonder what to replace it with in the event Ky liked the food. I will find something for Ky. Right now he is doing fine with his pellets, cooked beans and dried fruit. OOO his grape he gets every evening as a bed time snack.
