Now how did that happen?? My flock seems to have grown!! hehe I got an email over the weekend from a breeder in the city. She asked me if I would be interested in a pair of twin lovebird babies. She just wanted to give them to me...how could I refuse??? So I drove out to the city yesterday after work and picked them up. (I knew I held onto those extra cages for a reason!) They are so bloody adorable. They both hatched Feb. 28/08. She believes them to be m/f...but no worries, I will not inbreed, and I have no interest in breeding anyway. But they are too attatched to eachother to separate them now! They were handfed, and are somewhat tame..but a bit shy. So I will work with them, although being a pair they probably won't want to interact with me too much..but that's OK too, as long as I can get them off the floor if they fly down or something. They quite the playful pair. One is a bit bossy and pushes the other one around...but it is still cute. hehe They're all snuggled up at the moment having a snooze. No names yet. I was told I need cute matching twin names though. lol. I will post a couple pics once I download them from my camera. Just had to be a proud mama and brag about my new babies :D :clap:sing

having a pair of lovebirds is great. we never get tired of pj and darcy's antics, or their affection for each other. unfortunately, their antics include madly trying to breed. :shakefist that's too much affection.

They are sooo adorable! You're one lucky person to get a pair of Lovies for free! I know you will have lots of stories about them and plenty of pics. Congratulations!w00t

Thanks!!! :D I asked her why she was giving these 2 away as her fiance's full time job is breeding/selling birds. She said because they're 3 months old now, they don't get many inquiries for normal peach faces lovies..so she said she just wanted to get them into a good home, it's not about the money it's about the birds. What a GREAT breeder!! You should have seen her house..every wall was lined with bird cages..and every bit of decor in the house was parrots. Ceramic parrots, glass parrots, plastic parrots, parrot paintings, drawings, photos..everything was parrots!! lol..I think I was in heaven!! She had everything..a sennie, conures, lovies, p'lets, quakers..she even knows a caique breeder in Edmonton who breeds both BHC and WBC. I am so flattered she chose to offer these babies to me :) And very glad she did!

They are so cute. Look at them they look more like siamese twins!!!

Are you going to have them DNA'd? I hope they are both the same sex.
Do they make any noise? I love that little chirp they do. It can be peircing, but piercing in a cute way!!!!!!:dancew00t

Yes, I will probably have then DNA'd next month. They're constantly chattering at each other. lol. It is very cute. I took them out tonight one at a time to hold them and see what they will do if they're handled. They just pretty much sat there.. They tried to fly off a couple times, but other than that they were great. It only took a few attempts at 'step up' for them to do it. You can tell they are used to being grabbed/held vs. having them step up. You just pick them up and they sit there not trying to bite or squirm away or anything! Kiwi already decided she hates them. And that's ok..they just won't be allowed within 15 feet of eachother!! LOL It almost feels as if they have always been here already. I think they're going to fit into our flock just fine!! :D

I have been trying to find onfo online on proper weights for lovebirds, but I have found a few different answers ranging from 35g up to 65g. Does anyone know? They are 44 and 46g right now, but they're just babies so I know they will get a bit bigger but I don't know how much? I have seen lovebirds in pictures and in pet stores and stuff, but I have never owned them.

I still haven't thought of names yet. I kind-of like Mango..but I'm not sure. Then I thought of Razzle and Dazzle...but that may be a bit corny. lol I don't know!! I'm sure it will come to me eventually...it took me about 3 weeks to name Kiwi, and that was just one name to think up! :clap

My vet told me the adult weight range for lovebirds is between 40 and 65 grams, depending on the size/build of the bird. Yours are still babies, so I don't think that really applies at this point. I would expect them to put on more weight as they get older.

My rescue Skye has special needs and she can fluctuate between 57 and 64 grams, but she also has a bothersome little habit of laying between 4 and 6 eggs every 6 weeks or so. So her weight changes, based on where in her egg-laying cycle she is.

Thanks Beth!!!

Tango is perfect!!! So it is official, the babies are now Mango and Tango :D Mango is the one that is assumed male. His peach is darker than Tango's and that is the only thing I have to tell them apart. lol So hopefully it stays that way!! LOL I will get them DNA'd probably at the end of the month..because I want to know. lol. I just got Kiwi's DNA certificate in the mail yesterday. Gonna have to frame it and put it beside her baby bird certificate.

lmao Mango's peach is darker on his forehead than Tango's...and that's all I've got to go by. lol. He's much much more outgoing (sofar) too. He keeps venturing outside the cage while Tango stays inside.
