Today, I had taken all of the birds out to have some fun time. I even let Illapa out though he gets aggressive and territorial of everything. All is well until I notice Naomi's cast is caught in her cage. I got her off but had to cut off the cast. Her foot is its normal pink color but she was not able to use it. (it has been a little over 7 weeks in the cast) She was biting at her foot and it was a bit misshapen. I paniced and called the Vet. fortunately they are open on Saturdays and the vet was able to have me come right in. (I had caught him right as he was getting ready to leave. So I hastily put Diego back in his cage and I had to leave Illapa and Eva out. Illapa will go back into his cage and so will Eva. I grabbed Naomi and went to the vet. It turns out that her leg is fine and healed and it is just weak from lack of use, and it did heal crooked sue to the fact that she had pulled off the last cast in the middle. The vet was great he only charged us 56.00 for 2 xrays. He did not charge an office visit nor an emergency fee. Well we then came home to this:

The thing about it (aside from the fact that my birds will break out of their cages to get into another cage is that Diego and Illapa fight and Diego and Eva fight. Go figure! Illapa tried to take off my finger when I went to get Diego OUT of his cage (they are all in Illapa's cage by the way))
We are all one happy commune.
I actually like the friendship of Illapa and Eva better because she stands up to him and doesnt let him bully her!! (I did not put them in this cage, they went in there themselves)

Oh by the way Naomi is fine and even though her foot is weak and crooked she is starting to use it.

Hopefully Illapa hasn't lost his ardor for Naomi. Are you going to put them in together after her leg gets stronger?
I think he wants to start a harem and has two good canidates for it! :lol

All I can say is........WOW......that could never happen here - no friendly commune atmosphere here. Still, they tolerate each other most of the time, it's up to them I guess. You are very lucky that your caique gets along so well with the smaller birds. If Spike was in a cage with two budgies he would probably have eaten them before you got back.
It just shows how each bird has its own personality, individual likes and dislikes.

Okay see that is what is so horrifying about the whole thing...Diego usually tries to kill Illapa when they are out. That is because Illapa will taunt him by flying onto his cage or his tree and waiting until Diego tries to chase him off and he will fly away at the last minute. He used to get Naomi to do it with him. That is why I keep Illapa and Naomi flighted. They have never even set by each other before. Also Eva has never been that close to Diego. She is fascinated by him but scared. Also right before I left Illapa had been fighting Sebastian although he had no reason because he and Eva were on top of Sebastian's cage!!
And Holly...Illapa already feels he has a harem. When Naomi got back he went in between regurgitating for Eva and jumping on top of Naomi's cage to try to get at her. I am going to leave Naomi in her cage because of her foot and because she seems happy in there because she can eat when she likes. She likes fresh and moist food and Illapa doesnt so he tries to regulate what she does. If you see the last picture where he has his "mohawk". I think he is really psychotic!!
I think there is something wrong with my birds..

Jacqui your flock sounds just as mental as mine! Do you think I should go and get some kind of degree as a counsellor to deal with them all? Does it help? The budgies at the moment are doing fly bys at Spike in order to impress the conures of how brave they are. They are purposefully walking up to him and waiting for him to chase them. They take turns. He can be on my shoulder and suddenly he will duck down because a budgie does a fly over like a little fighter jet. Spike screams like a girl sometimes and flies to the ground. They are the craziest budgies I have ever seen. Then the conures take turns in chasing Spike. :catfight No wonder he has a complex! It's hard being Spike you know :conf I cannot leave them all alone for a minute.

I think I would have had a heart attack if I walked in on that! Birds are so silly. I know Rosie and Higgins often like to swap cages. Rosie actually invaded Higgins cage, and refused to budge for like, 3 days. We'd try to get her out just to play with her and she would growl! Poor Higgins has now been put in Rosie's cage with an extra toy to console him. :hehe

Okay, Kheron is through!
She thinks the birds are possessed. She went in to feed them today and she was changing the food bowls and when she looked up at Eva's cage, Diego was in there. Just like no big deal. Eva was with Illapa in his cage. Illapa had opened everyone's food doors to let them out. Seby is a scary cat and does not want to get in trouble so he stayed in his cage (he is like the little kid who doesn't join in on the acting up but tells on everyone else!!)
Kheron just cant figure out why it is they would break out of their cages to get into someone else's cage!!!
Jan, i don't think getting a degree in counseling would help as I have one and I don't get it!!!
the good thing is that Diego has learned to say his name, so now he can say, "Diego" "step up" "good boy"
I think Seby is also learning to talk..he moves his beak when you talk to him like he is practicing. Someone has learned to say Seby but I cant catch who it is.
Well never a dull day!! :help

Jacqui,
Your birdies are all so funny! I love the stories and was glad I got to see Diego again, as well as Sebastian and Eva for the first time.
