I noticed in an adorable picture of Bazbeaux that his beak is SOOOOOOO smooth! Daisy's beak always seems to be in one stage or another of peeling, though her Vet says it's fine. Do your caiques beaks peel?
Thanks!

My bird, Mr. Waddles, occasionally has had a "hangnail" of sorts with his beak. However, it doesn't peel on a regular basis. I actually took matter in my own hands when this happened and peeled it for him. It was driving me crazy. Sort of like my bird had booger in his nose....had to get rid of it.

kiwi's beak will peel, but not constantly I don't think. I haven't really paid too much attention to it..lol.. :?

speaking of beaks...do any of you trim their beaks? or file them a bit? bailey's is getting really sharp. if you do, what do you do it with?

Once you trim or file a beak, you will always have to do so. Give him some wood to chew on and it will naturally smooth it down.
As for flaking, mine flake regularly.

If Kiwi's is getting to long or sharp I just use a fine nail file and take just the point off and round it a bit. I haven't done it for a long time though, and he seems to be doing a pretty good job of keeping it trim

Yep, it's just like a big, thick, curved nail. And just like nails that peal the beaks can too, mine chip the top part from the end of their beaks (makes it more pointy) and I file the area to smooth and blend it a bit.

Yep, I occasionally trim the very point of my babies' beaks, but only if they are really sharp.
