Hello all,

I dont know much about the various different Caique colours, but what I do have a question on is are they mutations? Or true sub species? If some are mutations, can you let me know which are and which arent?

The reason I ask is if it were a mutation, it would have a certain behavioural (sex linked or otherwise etc) pattern? Which means its ethical to breed the two together to broaden the bloodlines and expand the lacking WB bloodlines here in Australia.

If they are true subspecies with no mutation effects, putting the two would give a random non true Caique line no? I am sure they would be compatible, but has anyone ever heard of a hyrbid line being successful? I would not breed the two together if they were true subspecies as we have such limited stocks of bloodlines available to us as it is... I am only asking out of curiosity on that point.

Cheers for any info, really appreciate it.

They are true sub-species :) (Wb and BH)

A cool sassy, I am not a person who has anything against hybrids, but I could not let myself breed a hybrid in our situation. When working with such limited blood lines we have to be careful to keep them pure, but at the same time keep them well mixed.

Can prove hard to achieve at times... but bleh... we have not allowed importation / exportation of birds for many many years now. Mid 1990's I think it was that it was all shut down.

Tell me about it - after I learned about caiques the challenge was to find one!
